This month, Cinema at the Casa will be focusing on climate and sustainability in honor of the upcoming Earth Day on April 22. This video will dive into Planetary Boundaries, a science-based health check on the nine systems that keep our planet stable and resilient.

This video presentation features Johan Rockström, a renowned Swedish scientist who has contributed significantly to global sustainability issues and is the joint director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research in Germany.

After the video, Eliot Jacobson, a retired UCSB professor, will speak and further illuminate the concepts presented by Rockström, discuss climate trends that will shape our future, and contextualize numeric guideposts that shape the dialog around climate.

The evening will conclude with an audience Q&A session, which will provide attendees with an opportunity to ask questions and engage in dialogue about climate issues.

Admission is $50.

Space is limited. Reservations are required.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Eliot Jacobson Ph.D., a retired professor of mathematics and computer science, has dedicated his life after retirement to raising awareness about climate change. Although he is not a climate scientist, his interest and concern about the impact of climate change on our planet has become his life’s mission.

After retiring from his academic career, he decided to pursue his passion for meteorology and climate awareness by conducting extensive research and writing about current issues. Today, Prof. Jacobson is a prominent voice in the climate advocacy community and continues to educate people about the urgent need for action to address this global crisis.

Through his work, he hopes to inspire people to take action and make a difference in their own small way. He recognizes that change is difficult and that there will always be those who deny science, but he believes that every action counts. He hopes that his research will contribute to a larger movement towards sustainability and a better future for all.
