  • Chef Budi Kazali, a graduate of the California Culinary Academy, worked in some of the best restaurants on the West and East Coasts. Early in his career he worked in San Francisco’s renowned La Folie and the boutique Campton Place hotel.

After relocating to Boston, Chef Kazali helped to open the James Beard Award winning Blue Ginger with Chef Ming Tsai, where he gained expertise in melding the flavors of Eastern and Western cuisines.

After five years at Blue Ginger, Chef Kazali returned to San Francisco, and refined his proficiency with French cuisine and technique at the acclaimed Restaurant Gary Danko. At Ozumo, a lively and upscale Japanese restaurant, Chef Kazali returned to his appreciation and dedication to producing fine Asian cuisine.

Since establishing his own restaurant with The Ballard Inn and Restaurant, Chef Kazali has been widely recognized as one of the top chefs on California’s central coast, consistently earning top honors in the Zagat survey, as well as other publications. He was named the Ultimate Chef by Central Coast Magazine in 2009. After 18 years Chef Budi Kazali sold the The Ballard Inn and Restaurant but is currently pursuing other ventures in the Santa Ynez Valley.

  • In 1996, Mike and Brooke Carhartt planted a vineyard along with a dream on the historic Rancho Santa Ynez™ property. Today, with their son Chase, the Carhartts grow grapes and craft wines on that same patch of ground. A ground to glass operation, the Carhartts take extreme pride in farming their own fruit sustainably, with the utmost care and consideration for the environment.
