Casa del Herrero is excited to announce our upcoming event, Casa in Bloom, a garden party on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 3:30-6:00 PM. We are committed to preserving Casa del Herrero’s architectural beauty and Montecito’s only National Historic Landmark for educational experiences for the community and future generations.
We have much to celebrate at the Casa this summer. See the exciting progress of our Save America’s Treasures Preservation project. Experience the recently conserved East Exedra in the Blue and White Garden, walk a new path based on Ralph Sevens’ original landscape plans leading to the South Exedra, which features an exquisite 13th century Italian fountain surrounded by historic tiles depicting peacocks and abstract designs. We welcome guests to view the restored Greenhouse Complex including a beautiful Lathe House, Glasshouse and Gardener’s Tool Shed complete with a Tack Room.
Come and experience the beauty of our gardens in full bloom and spend the afternoon enjoying light bites and drinks accompanied by Chris Fossek, Santa Barbara’s favorite Spanish Guitarist. We are offering special sneak peaks of our preservation progress, in addition to opening the main house and workshop, all of which are a time capsule of the 1920s and 1930s. Guests of all ages are invited to join the Casa in Bloom festivities for an afternoon of fun.

George Steedman’s participation in every detail of the property’s buildings, furnishings and gardens is the reason the estate makes a single artistic statement that is greater than the sum of its parts.

The expressive power of this garden is due to a series of fountains based on Spanish and Moorish examples designed by George Steedman, Arther Byne and Mildred Byne.

This garden was planted with blue and white flowers, matching the tile, and as Medora Bass wrote, were the favorite white flowers of her parents, “who often enjoyed the garden in the moonlight”.

During the early part of the 20th century when many grand estates were built by mid-westerners and easterners, they felt compelled to have an Arizona Garden. This included Carrie and George Steedman in the 1920s.

Tucked behind the East Exedra and reached by twin curving staircases, this may be the “Secret Garden” sometimes mentioned by Steedman in his correspondence.

Casa in Bloom’s signature cocktail! The Carrie’s Casarita Underwriter will sponsor this beverage in honor of Carrie Steedman, whose love of flowers resulted in Casa del Herrero’s spectacular gardens.

Medora Steedman was only fifteen years old when construction on Casa del Herrero was completed. The Medora’s Mocktail Underwriter will sponsor the non-alcoholic version of our signature cocktail.

The Casa del Herrero Workshop contains 300 ribbons that Carrie Steedman won in flower shows. In her honor, Casa del Herrero volunteers assemble beautiful arrangements for visitors to enjoy. The Festival Florals Underwriter will sponsor the floral arrangements that will decorate the event spaces.

George Steedman’s love of music is on display in the Casa’s living room with the elaborately decorated sound system. At Casa in Bloom, that love of music will honored with live Spanish guitar performed on the loggia. The Music Underwriter will sponsor the summer soundtrack that will enliven the Casa’s gardens throughout the event.
